Driver error compensation : no effect?

hi there
when i record audio, there's some latency...
i did the trick to discover the amount of latency, and i typed in the latency in the driver error compensation dialog box. however, things don't get better.
i even tried the highest value in the compensation box: no effect.
anyone has a clue of what's happening?

it all works with monitoring off.
but is there a workaround if i have guitar rig and if i want to monitor the guitar sound + effect?
