Sample trigger by analog CV via Soundcard-In possible?

Post by Manollo » Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:03 pm

Hello to everyone, it´s my first post here....

I just joined a band for a tour as a live musician. I work with Mac Book Pro and Motu, Access and some tools. Now they want me to trigger some drumsounds by this pads http://www.csaudio.com/Drums/Hammer/Hammer.htm and I would like to use my Ableton Sampler or Impulse to play that sounds via single Outs on my Motu Ultralite without using extra trigger boxes or so.... I guess that in this pads some kind of piezo or so is working wich generates analog voltage when you hit it.

The question / idea is:
Is it possible to put that trigger signal in an input of the Motu and make Ableton trigger a sapmple by that?
Would be cool or not? But I guess it´s a very "light" DC-signal....

I am very thankful for help with this idea.

Greetings, manu

If you have max4live, then it should be very easy to do. Otherwise i am afraid it's impossible.
You do know pads that send MIDI, yeah ?

Not used it myself, but the CV To Midi plug sounds promising.

Haha, yes I know there are pads that send midi but that band wants this ones.

I have max for live yes. But I never really used it (therefore I am more into analogue stuff). But the Expert Sleeper plug does the job! I tried the demo of the "CV to Midi" Plug, inserted it in an audio channel, Piezo disc as input on the motu, some adjustments and now the piezo triggers samples. Fine!!!

Thanks a lot!

Hi it´s me again.

I´ve got the trigger pads here now and well it works somehow with the Expertz sleepers "CV to Midi" but it´s really hard to adjust the correct midi note, to limit the trigger just on exactly one note (and not for exapmpe C3 to D#3 or so) and I have flanging double notes all the time, it seems like one note is triggered a couple of times. So this basically works but is not usable in a right way.

Does anyone have other ideas how I can trigger samples in Ableton by an analogue signal (from the pad via soundcard input)?
Maybe by there´s a tool for Max4Live?

Greetings and thanks a lot for viewing this post.

I searched for "drum replacement" and found apTrigger, it works super and costs 35€! No highend stuff, just a little tool that does it´s job.

I also tried http://www.kvraudio.com/get/4877.html but that´s crap, the triggering works not well.
