Time Signature Denominator

Post by mrvinyl » Thu Jul 14, 2011 1:52 pm

Can someone explain to me what this exactly means?
In my current project it semms to swap from 1/4 to 1/2
and as I'm playing out dance music don't I need it set on 4 / 4 it seems to jump back to what it wants and one of my scenes the play button has changed colour to orange?

yea dude, 4/4 is most likely what you want. are you saying that you didn't ever set it to 1/4 or 1/2? As far as the clip triangles being orange, i'm not exactly sure what you're talking about.

i can tell you this though, the master scene buttons can store tempo and time signature information. if you've been capturing scenes while the meter was set wrong, it's possible that it saved that info in the scene itself. the next thing i'd look at is if you accidently automated the time signature automation track. the final thing that's on my mind is that it's possible that you have a clip inside the set that is only a 1/4 sig, and when you fired it early on it just changed the global to 1/4.

i guess what i'm saying is i need to know a bit more to help, and i'll see if i can get back to a computer with live on it to help you work it out.

Yep, if you put 1/4 or 1/2 in the scene name it will go orange as it auto detects it as a time signature and changes to it. Don't use scene names that can be construed as time signatures!

1/4 is a crotchet a bar which is silly, and so is 1/2, a minim per bar. I assume you're not trying to make these time sigs, and have inadvertently named your scene with them in. Equally if you put 300bpm or something in the scene name it'll auto recognise that too and change speed when launching that scene.

So if you name a scene e.g. "Chorus; 120bpm; 4/4" it'll usefully change to that if you're DJing or manually speeding up/slowing down. If you call it "1/2 time break" it may change time sig to something you didn't want though (you'll tell by the arrow going orange).
