Cables for Studio monitors

Post by emotionz22 » Thu Jul 14, 2011 7:58 pm

I just purchased a presonus audio box usb interface and i have the m-audio Bx5a deluxe studio monitors...Now im already aware of XLR to 1/4" cables being the best connection for monitors but my question is what brand should i get besides monster because they are very expensive also is it a 1/4" male connector to XLR male connector...Basically what im saying is where can i find these type of cables for a reasonable price say 15$ to 18$ idk around that..i looked in my local stores like radio shack and best buy but i had no luck ...thank you

I usually go with ProCo cables from sweetwater.com, I find them to be the best bang for the buck in terms of quality versus what you spend.

I've had good luck with Monoprice- quite cheap, and seem to be of high quality. Resellers on eBay regularly ship exactly these cables for $15-$20 each.

Get Redco Audio to make some for you.

ProCo 5' TRS to XLR cable on Sweetwater.com is $17.89

5' Mogami standard balanced/mic wire with low-profile gold Neutrik TRS connectors is $21.20

$3 extra well spent in my opinion. of course if you need a lot of cables, that $3 would add up but you're only talking about needing a couple cables.

Or you could spend $5 on cables... really???

Just stay away from Hosa and lower for your monitor lines. ProCo, Whirlwind are good, as are the other recommendations above. When you upgrade your converters and monitors, then it will be worth it to go with premium brands - Mogami, Canari, Monster, etc.

LA Pro Audio has a great Ebay Store for all kinds of high quality cables.

read this article and you will realize that there is no difference in sound quality b/t a coat hanger and "pro cables". Get the cheapest you can find. As long as it has gold plated connectors, which most do, to keep oils and corrosion at bay, then you're good.
