Unable to map midi! (early 2011 MBP)

I just bought a new 17" Macbook Pro (early 2011).

My controllers do get recognized in Live: APC40, Touchable etc work fine.
The little midi indicator flicker lights seem to work ok.

But what I can't do is map anything.
When I enter midi mapping mode, I simply can't assign anything as midi doesn't get recognized there.
I've tried different controllers, but I can't map any.
They're not faulty: I can still map them on my old computer.

I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7.

What should I be looking into?
