hey, I have just purchased a copy of ableton and bought a new soundcard, i have just set up to test it all out for the first time im trying to record my guitar but im not getting a signal, the sound is coming out of my speakers but im not getting any levels on ableton i have been in preferences it is recognising my soundcard i have armed the track but i must be missing something could someone maybe point me in the right direction.

If your soundcard has more than one input it might be the track isn't set to the right input. Make the input/output section of your audio channel visible by clicking the little circle which says I.O on it (in the bottom right corner of ableton). There should now be a little section on your audio tracks channel strip which says audio from at the top and has a few drop down menu's, one of those drop downs will have a channel selector which, by default, will say 1/2 on it, changing the channel may help, in the drop down menu each channel in it will have a small meter so you can see if any of the inputs have a signal at all. Also, clicking on the 'in' button on that section of the channel strip may help, as it turns the channels monitor to inputs only.

Not 100% sure if this will help as I don't record live instruments often but it's what I would try...
