External out channels using the effects from master

Post by cumcd » Sat Jul 16, 2011 10:34 pm

Ok, so this is probably a noob question..

I've setup my ableton so I have two things on my external out going to my mixer.
On 5/6 I have bass+kick+percussion and on 7/8 I have all the rest like melody, synth etc.
When I play these things it doesn't affect my master in ableton (which should be out 1/2 right?), which is okay with me, but I can't use the mastering effect that I have on the master.

So, is there anyway I can get my channels that is hooked up to external outs 5/6 & 7/8 to receive the effects from my master?

Thanks in advance, please don't hesitate to ask, if my question wasn't clear enough or something like that!

You can send to either the external outs, or the master, but not both at the same time.

Easiest way to get around this would be to create two new audio tracks, one set to go to 5&6 outs, and one set to go to 7&8 outs. Put your mastering effects on both of these tracks. Now directly route your other audio tracks (ie, bass, kick, percussion) to the 7&8 audio track, and the other instruments to the 5&6 audio track.

thanks for such a quick answer!
I'm very new to this, so please bare with me, but how do you route you channels to other channels? I think I've missed something here, because I'm not quite sure what that is?

I can't see a option called "Track Out To"/"Track In"? Where did you get that?

Ok, did exactly as you explained, but for some reason there is no sound?
the "bass" "perc" etc channels all have volume showing that there is something playing, but neither the master on my mixer shows anything or the "Track Out" does?

On the Track - Out to 7&8 you need to click the "In" button where it says In, Auto, Off. Sorry about that.
