Complex Warp Mode Adds Gain and Reduces Quality

Post by Spectral_Gate » Sun Jul 17, 2011 6:38 am

Hi, I've been warping full tracks for djing in complex mode and have noticed that this significantly reduces audio quality, turning wav files into like 256 or even 192kbps mp3s. It also adds unpredictable amounts of gain - some tracks peak at +.1 dB while others will reach over +5 dB!

- turning Warp off solves the issue
- using only one marker, instead of one on the first kick and one on the last kick improves the issue
- I'm not changing the track's speed at all - i.e. playing a 128bpm track at 128!
- I haven't played with Complex Pro mode - should I?

Any advice on how to better alleviate this issue?
When djing I actually turn Warp off whenever I'm not tempo transitioning. Thanks!

You can probably use Re-Pitch mode instead of complex and save yourself a little cpu in the process - so long as the tracks don't vary in tempo too drastically.

Thanks, I'll experiment with repitch.

And yea, Complex Pro does sound better, though it doesn't improve the gain-added situation very much. That's only an issue because the extra random gain freaks out my mastering chain. But rather would have that than poor sound quality :)
