Way to set a 0dB ceiling for faders without hard-mapping?

Hey y'all,

Is it possible to set a 0dB limit on a fader without mapping it to a MIDI slider and setting the limit in the MIDI Map menu? I'd love to be able to not worry about my APC40 pushing a fader above 0 when it's put all the way to the top. It's kind of annoying.

And I don't mean something like a Limiter because that colors the sound and is a pretty terrible plugin to use for something like this.

i posted on your other post there....this one is a little weird for me, i am not understanding how you feel it would be a waste of a fader to set the max at 0db, if you are already controlling the volume levels with the apc faders? do you want to control the track volume, and something else with the apc faders?....or not the track volume at all? im sorry bro. im not trying to be a jerky, im just not getting it? why is the midi mapping so bad?

Put a utility plug in on each track, and set the gain to -6dB.

He wants to be able to use the apc40 as it is now auto map to the 8 track in the grid (witch wont work with a "hard-mapping")
But he wants to be able to push that fader up live without worrying of going in the red and causing distortion

cool....makes sense.... i get the not wanting to have to worry about pushing your faders into the red...i guess i didn't realize you couldn't hard map a fader? what is the deal with that? just for my future reference. is it because for when you move the "red square" in live over to the right, the grid on the apc moves too, making...for example what was track two in live, track one on the apc?
and you may not want that mapping on a different channel?

Yeah, if you hard map the faders, then things get all messed up when you start scrolling sideways and what not with the red box. Persoanlly I adjust my clip volumes so i can have the faders at max on the APC, but this does the same thing.

This is the way I've always done it so I can always bang stuff straight to 0db on my faderfoxes. Works a treat.

I do this when using Korg Nano Kontrol as a control surface for my laptop. With my APC in the home studio, I use the Native Kontrol presets. Highly recomend it! You get more with the preset then just 0db faders: 8 sends, note player, drum rack player, step sequencer, and more. Lots of small but handy things: shift + metronome knob = bpm.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am going to try to set up default insert to track to automagically add the utility plug... recall seeing there was a way to do this some time ago... but my memory ain't what it used to be.
