How to deal with resampling (for electro remix)

Hello !

I'm part of a remix contest, and it's my first time dealing with making a full track...

For the remix contest we've been given a couple of WAV files with samples inside. They are organised by types of samples (bass, drums, etc) but the thing is that when I load them into a new ableton file, each files BPM are different... I'm talking about the BPM displayed on the left of the track when I double click on them. I know the BPM of the original track, and I know that usually you need to readjust the wave form on the BPM in the timeline but I feel really this really messy and I get quickly lost because sometime I think the adjustment is ok and when I listen to the track it sounds different, etc.

Also, I've been looking for nice remix tutos on ableton, but I could find one matching my case : I found some dealing with one track, but none dealing with multiple tracks and maybe showing how to manage the problem I have with this BPM issue...

Anyway I managed to isolate one sound with the "loop" button, and then I right-clicked and made a "new midi track" with it. But when I'm done doing this, I don't know what to do because if I do this on another sound, it will create an new intrument and I can't group some of the resampled sounds in one instrument...

Really, i'm getting lost... :/ But i'm damn motivated for this remix contest so I'll grab any piece of advice you can give me to make it simple !

Set the master bpm of the Live set to the same bpm as the original song, and then turn off the warping on each track. Check that the start and end markers for all tracks are at the same place, and they should in theory all fit.

hey !

So I put back the samples in ableton, set the BPM to 128, and disabled the "warp" on my first sample track. The thing is I don't see anyway to cut samples from the tracks now... The grid has disappeard, and I don't have any selection options on my cursor on the timeline... :/

I normally cut up my samples in arrangement view - the grid should stay the same whether the sample on it is warped or not.

If you really need to have the warp options available, set the warp mode to repitch and make sure the bpm of the sample is the same as the bpm of the set. This will enable all the warping options whilst preserving the original length of the sample (unless you start changing the bpm of course).

Well... I managed to cut some stuff and stock them back in the composing pannel. Then I put them in impule/drum rack/whatever...

I'm starting to have something interesting I guess... But I feel like i'm going to listen to it in one week, and think that's the worst music i've ever heard

I got to keep working on it... I want to win this contest...
