Issue importing ableton files

Post by Visible Cow » Thu Jul 21, 2011 6:47 pm

I'm having an issue and hope that I can describe it clearly. I've been trying to import files recorded with Ableton into Reaper but every file that I pull from my Ableton folder comes out normalized in Reaper.

Also, when I rename a file in the Ableton browser and then try to pull it back into Ableton it comes back normalized as well and with the old name.

It's a bit embarrassing, I've been an Ableton user for years....so far I've had no luck with the (usually very helpful) manual.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sam

What exactly does "normalized" mean in this context?

Hi,
Normalized in the sense that the track is much louder and eats up all available headroom.

It seems I have found my problem. I've been using the consolidate function the same way I would use a merge function in a DAW. After reading through the manual again I see that when you consolidate a track it becomes normalized. My bad, I just assumed it kept the level as-is (although ableton does compensate for the normalization).

I'm now using the bounce all tracks option which seems to solve my problem.
