Soundcloud Tips - Get The Most out of Promoting Your Music
Soundcloud Tips - Get The Most out of Promoting Your Music
I've only really started using Soundcloud properly over the last 2 or 3 weeks and haven't had too much time to put into promoting my tracks.
I was just wondering what people's experiences were, and what you have found works for you.
One thing i know i won't be doing is adding random people in the hope they will add me too, and i have seen alot of people simply cut and paste the same comment on as many tracks as possible in the hope they will get something back.
I've left a few comments here and there but only on the music i really like. As i said i haven't had too much time to listen to what's out there so do you have any good group or artist recommendations to suggest?

That sounds like you're on the right track so far =)
I look at it this way (and I learned from myspace)
If you have 5000 random people liking your account but are only following you because you randomly followed them, they might as well not be part of the numbers
I would rather have 10 people following me that I knew loved what I was doing (or at least interested) than 5000 that didn't know who I was or why they clicked follow
Consequently, I have no followers on soundcloud haha, but that's fine with me =)

sound cloud has a serious issue of providing music to an audience that doesn't exist, what i mean is most people who are on the site are producers, not listeners, its a crap design, at least my space had the connection between users and music.

@jojo - but half of the appeal of soundcloud is how easily you can embed your music to other sites where people are more likely to listen.

Hmmm, I don't entirely agree...jojo191519 wrote:sound cloud has a serious issue of providing music to an audience that doesn't exist, what i mean is most people who are on the site are producers, not listeners, its a crap design, at least my space had the connection between users and music.
Yes, most of the people who are registered with Soundcloud are producers. This doesn't mean that all the people who visit the site are producers. I know plenty of people who visit the site regularly, but don't have an account.
Soundcloud also integrates very nicely with other social networks (e.g. facebook, tumblr) and their widgets mean you can embed your SC tracks pretty much anywhere.
It does mean that it's difficult to build an army of followers, but for me it's a good vehicle. I've had two of my tracks signed by a label as a direct result of the label owner hearing them on Soundcloud. It's also a nice place to host my music in order to get it out to people via other means.

i thought that soundcloud was supposed to be a peers network?

Soundcloud is exactly what it looks like. A social networking site targeting music makers and DJ's with music to share. And, as others have mentioned, it's also really easy to embed a track or mix from Soundcloud elsewhere online.
Having said that, there are some fans that have accounts just to follow people they like and get updated about new tracks. However, it doesn't seem to have been primarily designed for fans since the interface emphasizes sharing tracks.
@jojo191519 - I think the simplicity of the interface and clean appearance are a welcome change from the crap-filled, hard to read Myspace experience. I also find that the emphasis on user content (ie - music) rather than comment and spam diarrhea means that I go to it more to actually listen to music, which is something I rarely did with Myspace for a number of reasons. Not least of which being that the player was a piece of crap.
Also, some blogs and magazines use it host their mixes. FACT, for instance.
