one can group the vst in question. then the next step would be to activate the configure mode by clicking the "configure" button @ the wrapper parent of the vst. then, when all parameters are added, the grouped vst (eg. the rack) will be dropped to a certain (created beforehand) folder within the instrument rack folder under the live devices.
from now on, when you load the respective rack, all parameters are there, the way the were when you saved that rack. there is no need to assign macro controls. and, you can then bank through the assigned parameters by banks of eight parameters.
cheers.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

maybe this is helpful in the given context:

add the following line to your Options.txt to prevent Live from automatically populating parameters
when loading vst/au instruments:

-_PluginAutoPopulateThreshold=0

when added, you have to add all parameters wanted by yourself.
cheers.

Nice tip !
I racked a GenesisCM vst.
I configured 8 knobs for filter section, 8 for effects...with my Remote SL on Ableton Automap template.
And now i can bank through those banks of 8 encoders, showing their name ;)
Just need to save the rack.
Of course, you can still use the 8 macros too, to get a "best of parameters" like behavior

The only downside : it is a VST in a rack, so you need to select it inside the rack, because rack itself is selected by default when you select the device.

Yes, but you don't need to keep it in the rack if you don't want to. Every time you load it, you can just right-click and hit ungroup if you want. Your parameter configuration remains.

Thanks, i realized that after some tests
No more rack level needed, but if i do that, i loose the rack best-of like macro knobs.

Too bad Ableton didn't implemented anything to do that automatically...

Most other DAWs i know (FL Studio,Sonar,Studio One to name a few) do integrated MIDI mappings for VSTs :|
Of course, a lot of VSTs already include their own MIDI mapping, some ppl use Kore/Maschine or any other VST like Usine as VST host...it reduce the need for this ;)
But sometimes we simply want straight forward MIDI mapping, without any work around.

I think Ableton push ppl more toward integrated devices than plugins ;)

I will use this solution as alternative to Automap :D
Because Remote SL support already give me feedback and banking.

Thanks again :D

well you have 8 knobs..

an example :
make 6 presets on the keyrig..

preset 1 : cc 1-8... on the keyrig
now make a correspornding userconfig called "funken_mixer"..
where the 8 knobs = 8 track volumes
you can also control the track on/off with buttons

preset 2 : cc 9-19 (8 parameters/2 bank buttons/ lock)
make a correspornding userconfig called "funken_device1"..
where the 8 knobs are tied to device controlls

the device "bank up/down" and "lock to device" are very also important (map them to buttons)

preset 3 : cc 20-31
make a correspornding userconfig called "funken_device2"..

etc for preset 4-6

now in Live prefs...
choose "funken_mixer" in the first slot... "funken_device(1-5)" on the others...
choose the keyrig as input..

now you have 6 different "controllers"... tied to 6 keyrig presets..
hope this helps

as I remember from my late great oxygen8...
there is a key combination for storing the preset..
otherwise.. when you switch ..it'll be gone
