Using Session and Arrangement View in Unison

Post by Dan13LP » Mon Aug 01, 2011 4:16 pm

I've been working on re-doing my set I use for live performance, but ran into a problem. The way I currently have it set up is entirely within the arrangement view. What I do is take one of my songs, remove all of the parts I play live via my synthesizers, and export that audio. I take the audio (with leads removed) and place them into a new live set, and then include any MIDI/Audio tracks I will need to play along with this audio track. Most MIDI/audio tracks have pre-programmed automation in them, so when I play them live I can still get all of the effects/volume control I want, but don't have to touch the computer and can concentrate on just playing each lead part. The only problem with this approach, is the arrangement view is getting quite long (120 min+) and I'm looking to make my live set more efficient and easier to mix using the session and arrangement view.

What I want to do, is set up two audio tracks in the session view, and simply put all of my songs on each track, alternating between the two. Then use the scene launch buttons to launch each new song, with the tempo automated on the scene launch buttons. My question: is there a way to move the marker in arrangement view back to 1.1.1 each time I hit the scene launch button, so that the Audio/Midi tracks I play live along with each song will be aligned with the start of each new song, and so all of the pre-programmed automation occurs at the correct time? I want to put all of my Audio/MIDI tracks at 1.1.1, so that the the longest my arrangement view will every be, is the length of my longest song. Is there a way to do this with the approach I've described above?

Thanks,

-Dan

Let me re-phrase my question in a more concise manner. Is there way to align the automation of my tracks sitting in my arrangement view, with the flow of audio in my session view? I've thought about using clip envelopes, and I've also read about using automation clips with midi yoke? and re-routing them back to their original track, but this defeats the purpose of what I'm trying to do (consolidate my live set, aka use less tracks) Are there any other ways/ideas?
