Hi there, long time lurker but had to ask a Q as it's something I can't work out.
I'm running Ableton 8 and using the Utility plugin and automating gain rather than automating the track volume.
So for all my tracks i have this done and then when i try to adjust the overall track volume on the right hand side slider, my envelope goes from a color to being greyed out and basically doesn't save the changes. It could just be a newbie error and I'm missing something. I've even saved the live project and when I reopen it all reverts back to what it previously was.
Hope I was able to explain it clearly.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like maybe you have automated the mixer volume by mistake..it only takes one point to count as automation
Expand your mixer volume lane if there is a red square by volume you have automation somewhere on that track

Re: Question about automation specifically gain
I also do not automate the Mixer Volume, it is a good approach.
You can also right click on the Track name and clear the Envelope. Also, it is common to accidentally record volume automation when recording from Session to Arrangement View.
