Live Sets 8 On Windows 7 Chokes & Stutters

Post by thanser » Thu Aug 04, 2011 5:34 pm

Yes, another performance issue. :(

I just installed Live 8.0.1 on a Dell Precision 380, 3.0 Ghz processor, 4 Gb RAM, running Windows 7. All Windows updates have been installed.

I notice that in the Clips\Construction Kits folder these files do not play smoothly - they choke and stutter and the CPU usage is WAY over 100%, and in the 130 to 150% range. I have nothing else open, only Live.

Why is that? Are these sets so processor-intensive?

Thank you! I'm looking elsewhere for performance tweaks but I'm surprised a 3.0 GHz processor can't play these sets.

do you have anti-virus on?

if so, you might want to switch to gaming mode or turn it off entirely while you're using Live.

Live 8.0.1
that version was one of the buggiest ever produced. It is also at least 18 months old.
try installing the most recent version which has many many many many bugfixes

I have no idea how old a dell precision 380 is?
what CPU does that have?

the GHz is no guide, because the old pentiums got up that way before they were retired by Intel. I think my machine before this one was a P4 with about 3.2 ghz, that was about 5 years ago.
My current machine is a core2 6600 at 2.45GHz and is much faster than that old thing. However, I will be retiring it sometime this month for an i7

tldr; it may be that you are running a machine that is too old. 5 years is a long time in computing.

Thanks, everyone.

McAfee expired yesterday, so I uninstalled it and restarted. With no other application running in the background, these sets still skip and stutter.

You may be right - this was once a mighty little 64bit machine but by today's standards it's under-powered.

If you're not running a dual-core these days, it's an antique.

Time to upgrade both my Mac and my Windows machines.

i don't think what Angstrom was saying is that your PC is underpowered. i think he just meant that GHz is not the only thing to look at when it comes to processor specs these days... dual, quad and octo cores are upon us so saying you have a 1.8 GHz processor that is dual core is a lot better than saying you have a 2.0 Ghz processor... unless you forgot to mention that it has dual cores. correct me if i'm off base Angstrom.

i think without spending a dime. you should take Angstroms advice and upgrade Live. he's right about that version. i didn't catch that when i read your post, there was a no looking back library change at 8.1. try upgrading to 8.2.2 before you start computer shopping.

I had the same problem.

To resolve it go to System Preferences, CPU, and select (Make it Yellow) Milticore/Multiprocessor.
