getting it there?

Post by guntop » Sun Aug 07, 2011 7:29 am

Ok so I've been comparing my tracks' waveforms to some pro tracks. Im getting pretty close to that kind of thick waveform that they have, but I'm still not there (just 3-4 dB off). Im not doing much mastering to it and im wondering if its that that im missing or is it my mixing before it even gets to the master. You know, ive been eq'ing and compressing each track where appropriate but im not sure if im just not doing it well enough or if its bc im not using any mastering (besides slight eqing and limiting). Should i get something like izotope ozone to get it there or can i do just as well with just an eq, multiband dynamics, (maybs another eq) and a limiter. it seems like every time i strap a multiband dynamics to anything i eventually completely destroy the sound (well not completely, but it certainly loses something). Should i consider maybe starting to make sub mixes and compress and eq those instead of just trying to eq, compress, and limit on the master? Ive been trying different combinations (besides getting ozone) and i seem to be a stalemate.

hope you guys can shed some light cuz i feel like im almost getting that loud and wide sound but just need something else. not sure what though.

thanks a bunch...lata

Compression/limiting on individual channels and busses is what you need
