'Notepad' or similar in Live?

Post by Citizen » Wed Aug 10, 2011 2:40 pm

Hey, just wondering if there is some means by which I can actually make written notes to myself in Live.

You know, like if I have some ideas while I'm working - but don't have time to fully explore them at the time, is it possible to jot these down somewhere in the project, so I can remind myslef when I next work on it?

Photoshop has something like this - it just works a bit like 'Stickies' on Mac OSX. Does Live?

Yes, right click on a clip and choose "Edit Info Text". Now when you have the help pane open in Live's lower left corner, you'll see anything you enter here when that clip is selected.

Oh wow - that is cool! Thank you.

I take it that there is not space for general notes that relate to the whole track, rather than the specific clip to which the note has been added?

I guess, as a workaround, if you had some more general notes for various ideas for the track (ie, not clip specific notes) you could just have a track that was dedicated to 'NOTES'

I think you can right click on the track header and do the same thing, I can't remember if it only works for Clips.

Yep - works a treat.

You can also do this on the Master track - so you can make 'overall' notes for the project, track specific notes, and clip specific notes.

Awesome. Thanks!

Hopefully, we can assign a color to the text box on the next update.

My own wishlist is an option to only show user entered text, and hide the default help text.

There's also a hack to make notes show up in the Project Manager View (with pic support!)

and also if you save notes in a jpg or png format you can load those in their own track and they will pop up when/where they are placed in the Arrangement view.
