Total Newb tracks question

Post by tomcat85 » Fri Aug 05, 2011 1:35 pm

Hey all, looking to get ableton live intro, i know it only has 64 tracks, but say track one is a drum track, can i change the tracks underneath to other instruments and get the programs to play all those tracks at once? I just really need to know this before i purchase bc if I can really own have 8 tracks and all 6 tracks within that column have to be the same instrument and can't be played at once I'm going to be stucks. I really need to know before I spend 100 bones, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Try the demo out for free and check it. I can't really decipher what you're asking.

yeah, you can't put more than one instrument per track on intro....you can't even do it on the bigger versions without getting technical about it (but you have unlimited tracks, so it doesn't matter)
that being said, i think intro is an alright value, and you will dig it. its worth a hundred bones..plus when you buy intro, it will discount your price to upgrade to a bigger version.
what you should do is buy a controller like the apc20 or the novation launchpad....those controllers are a little more than 100 bucks on amazon and they come with versions of ableton live, that are comparable to intro.

+1, I also think some novation keyboard controllers come w/ live lite as well. It's how I got started w/ Live and never turned back.

If that particular controller comes with Live Lite...

Nah, if it comes with an earlier version of Live Lite you should get a free upgrade to the current version of Live Lite. There is no upgrade path INTO Live Intro.

actually the hardware version of live (akai, novation) is better than intro in my opinion....you get more scenes....at least in the akai version.

Well intro gives me 65 tracks can anyone lead me in the direction of comparison charts for the akai version? I'm really trying to get the best program, and I feel that ableton is it. I just can't get the full version yet and I want to make the right decision. I'm planning on making techno/house stuff. Thanks

here is the apc chart http://www.ableton.com/pages/2010/apc_20/apc_comparison
intro chart http://www.ableton.com/pages/live_8/com ... live_intro
you get 64 audio tracks and unlimited midi tracks in intro....but only 8 scenes....
in the apc version you get 8 audio tracks and 8 midi tracks but like 20 scenes....
for me....having only 8 scenes, despite all of the tracks you get, was more limiting to me
to be honest once you get into it, neither of these versions will be enough....you will probably want the full version pretty quickly, for the drum rack alone.
seriously though, you are probably going to want a controller....

In session view, yes. In arrangement view the tracks a horizontal and there are no scenes.

buy a controller with live lite (for free) upgrade to intro if that version isn't enough.
