Vanishing VST GUI's

Post by Perc » Mon Jun 30, 2008 9:46 am

Hi,

I'm just installed Live7 on my new laptop so that I can play live.

3rd party VST's load and work ok, but sometimes when your press the 'spanner' to launch their GUI nothing appears. Normally the GUI will launch the first time you press the spanner after putting the VST into the track. But if you close the GUI and try to re-open it later on it often does not appear.

Once a GUI does not appear it will not come back no matter how many times you press the spanner icon.

The spanner icon still lights up and turns off as if the GUI is being displayed and hidden.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi.

Yes, it happens with every 3rd party plugin that has a GUI.

Thanks.

pretty weird :?

had you tried manually refreshing the vst cache?
option -> preferences -> File Folder -> Rescan Plugin
if that doesn't work, check these settings under Preferences -> Look Feel:
Multiple Plug-in Windows (ON)
Auto-Hide Plug-in Windows (OFF)
Auto-Open Plug-In Custom Editor (try both ON and OFF)

Now i'm guessing: could be you used a dual screen setup and ableton is now opening the windows on another nonexistent monitor?

if all of these are not working i suggest you to mail [email protected]

Hi Perc,

could it be you are using a Microsoft Intellipoint mouse driver? This is known to cause problems like you describe them. If that should be the case, please uninstall the driver, you will still keep the basic functionality of your mouse.

Best,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I will try the mouse thing. I think I have a logitech mouse here, so with that I would not have to use microsoft mouse drivers at all.

removing all microsoft mouse drivers and installing and using a logitech mouse has solved the problem

Thank you all for your help :-)

Aaaand if THAT didn't work... (cause I've struggled with this on multiple computers, OS's, platforms AND ableton versions...)

When I'm using just one monitor I have this nasty habit of dragging the GUI to the bottom of the screen... today, I had the genius idea of hiding the taskbar and what do you know... there they were...

I`ve had the same problem with the guis of vsts. Switching Live to fullscreen-mode and pulling the vst gui up worked as well in most cases. But thanks for the hint with the mouse driver and the taskbar. These solutions should be better.
