Live 7 memory limitations. Good workarounds?

Post by bresma » Fri Aug 12, 2011 2:00 pm

Hey Everyone in Ableton land,
I am at work on a set in Live 7, and am hitting the memory limit. i'm on a brand new mbp, with 8 gigs of ram (which evidently live can only use half of). The set so far consists of 65 midi channels (most channels are an instrument and at least 1 fx). What are the best workarounds to reduce the amount of memory usage of this set, so i can continue to expand the number of midi channels i can load into it (i really want to be able to double the current number of channels). I have tried freezing a number of channels, but that seems to have not helped. When i try to add a new midi channel, Live is crashing. I have 2 weeks before I'm scheduled to debut this set, so i need to get this worked out as quick as possible.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

thanks
max

Hi,

freezing will help with CPU overload, but if you want to free up RAM, it is best to flatten the tracks as well (after you are done tweaking them).

Cheers,
Stas.

thanks stm. that has worked well. I am now over 100 channels without any issues.
