Google fights back with Ice Cream Sandwich update to be launched the same time as iPhone 5. I love this game!

I have a Droid X. Every successive software "update" has crippled my phone even more. I'm waiting for the iPhone 5. Google is the new Microsoft!

Well I hope this starts some real competition instead of the yawn fest it’s been so far.

As much as I'm a phan-slave, the same thing happens with iPhones... big time. How many iPhone 1 and iPhone 3G's do you see walking around these days?Anubis wrote:Every successive software "update" has crippled my phone even more. I'm waiting for the iPhone 5.

I think regardless of OS it’s pretty standard for any smartphone to have a life span of about 2 years if you want to keep current. I don’t know if that will change, but that’s about the going rate at this time.

I disagree. I get a gratifying chuckle out of Ice Cream Sandwich. It's the first asthetically pleasing title that Google has come up with since Gmail.

I'll agree the name Ice Cream Sandwich came way out of left field and is still a big mystery to me. Where are they going with this?

No kidding. Ice Cream Sandwich is far more interesting, IMO. Not the OS, mind you. Only the name.LoopStationZebra wrote:Google buys Motorola Mobility!!!

Seriously though, Google's decent products (search, ads, analytics) seem to be outnumbered by their dreck (Wave, Buzz, Google TV, Music by Google, etc.). Now they own a boatload of severe Motorola dreck. Like, the Atrix was a neat idea, but in reality it turned out to be overpriced dreck for a micro-niche audience who all likely bought iPad 2's instead.
Google claims not to be evil and driven by innovation, but their last ten moves are all copycat unoriginality dreck. They're shutting down Labs and gunning hard into a patent war to protect their xeroxed dreck.
Fail.
Re: Google Ice Cream Sandwich update?
I think Apple is going to cause many companies to go into near bankruptcy, not just because of the awesomeness of their products, but because of the current corporate mentality of ego, greed, and share holders screaming "goddamnit, make something to compete with Apple's .....". Competition is good but not when you're basically copying and 10 steps behind the world leader. "Rushed to market" is going to define the next 10 years of competition.
And we're reaching near price equilibrium where competitors can no longer count on consumers buying their product simply because it's cheaper than Apple. That or lower their prices to make their profit margins extremely thin....or go the usual route of saving money by making shit quality products.
AND I've read a lot of reports lately where competitors are finding it difficult to even build their products because Apple is taking up so much of the world's tech resources and assembly lines.
FFS. I can't think of 1 new "innovative" product in the last several years that wasn't either mimicking Apple or including technology to use with Apple products. Competitors are bigger Apple fanboys than the Apple users.
