the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)
Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)
so YOU have a language barrier... and WE are wrong for it.
WE need to change our language to fit YOUR understanding and/explanations.
that makes perfect sense. alright guys, time to call your old English teachers and get this sorted out moving forward.
thanks 9V for saving the English speaking world from it's own mistranslation of Italian concepts. You should smear Nutella all over your body and roll in the grass to celebrate this ground breaking moment in history.

Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)
thanks for the corrections, but as far as i read, most of american people (80%) are pro death penality. Look, for instance, at what happened in norway with the nazi killer. In USA something like that is impossible to think, i mean the calm reaction of the prime minister, the nazi not killed etc. It is a question of different cultures, not only the government. When i was a student some of my friends were american, i guess "democratics" (for what it means...), but they had deep tabooes, for instance about the "sacred" flag, against "communists" (LOL) religion, and when one of them went to hospital, he was upset because he did not pay anything, he said "i am not poor", "i am not a loser". So you have this taboo of "the loser", LOL! Your biggest worst fear is to be a "loser"beats me wrote:9V wrote:the difference between europe and USA? I said we think the death penality is badass. We love it. So I don't know what you're arguing about in the first half of your statement. The second half you completely lost me, something about being a loser.

It is painstakingly clear you do not understand much of anything outside of your own bubble. To generalize an entire population based on one experience of an American friend going to the hospital is ludicrous. Do you even know what "taboo" means? Statistics can be skewed. I'm quite certain you pulled that 80% number out of your ass. I could go to Texas and ask 4 people if they are for the death penalty, then say 100% of Americans are for the death penalty, but that doesn't make it true.
Back to topic, I cannot resist. Call me a troll feeder I guess, however, your view of what you call music is not radical, nor is it revolutionary. It's just plain silly. If you want to talk about music existing outside of the audible realm, then I might be interested. Maybe we don't have to hear music for it to exist, but that's the same as asking if a tree falls in the woods and no one is around, does it make a sound? There is no correct answer, only speculation. To boast your explanation is the only logical explanation without presenting any viable logic or reasoning is pointless. You are no more a musician than Plato was a race care driver.

Glad I could help with your being 100% accurate about the US and all its one minded citizens. You might want to tone down the WWII and communism references though. It sometimes comes off like your views are dated and out of touch. Just sayin’.
Re: the topic of topics: MIDI vs AUDIO ("what is music"?)
I have a horrible feeling that 19 pages of all this cultural superiority crap is just 9v's way of saying 'i don't like working with samples' and feeling the need to justify it.
I should really stop trying to talk to people on the internet. It's a fucking waste of time.

it is not your fault if you were born in USA, after all. Let's say if you are lucky in 2080 you'll discover thanks to some old 2000 european book that arab terrorism does not exist...beats me wrote:Glad I could help with your being 100% accurate about the US and all its one minded citizens. Well, every SERIOUS dj does not consider himself a musician, but a dj. If you consider yourself a dj and pretend to be a musician you are neither one nor the other. Djs play with sounds, musicians work with music.

I find it hilarious that 9V tries so hard to come off as elitist when he has ignored every post I've written that actually deals with the musicological implications of his "debate." I can only conclude that he is hack. A dilettante who has some half-baked knowledge of music history and hopes to throw it out there to boost his emaciated ego.
To 9V: not everyone on this forum is strictly a pop musician, and it's plainly obvious that you are acting like someone who is more elite than you are. I live in the music-academic world. I study scores of the masters on a daily basis (sorry, most are not Italian). If I went to an AMS or SMT conference and tried to make the argument you are making based solely on the premise that "I am using logic" I would be laughed right out of the auditorium. You obviously don't have the musicological tools necessary to defend your argument. I've given you a specific source to counter your definition of "music" and you've countered with absolutely nothing.
People on this board know that I am prone to pointing out the differences between "high art" music and "pop" music, but I have never used it to try to belittle people (or an entire nation of people) like you have. So in addition to your ignorance of music history and scholarship you have also revealed yourself to have no class. Good job.
