Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
I'm just awaiting Traktor Scratch Pro 2... When that gets here i'll be using max4live to give me the ability to do exactly that, 4 tracks from ableton with half of the APC40 given over to Traktor, with 4 pages of controls available....

Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
I disable half of the apc40 and reprogram it to send midi message out to an iac driver which is plugged into Traktor....
I can't do it now as i don't yet own traktor.....
I'll be doing it using the Midi scene of my Isotonik device for the APC40, click the banner below for what else it does...

Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
Yeah ok.
Max4live not for me at this stage.
I just want to mainly run Traktor Pro on the Apc40 and fiddle a little with Ableton, splitting the Apc40 in half with both software.
** So as per last post - Is this possible now????

Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
Thanks 4 reply.
I currently am only running Traktor Pro and useing the Midi Sync with Ableton.
This is being run through my A&H Zone 4D.
What I really want is to hit some Pads running the above.
I am about to get the Apc40. So I am just trying to figure out if I can still do the above but through the Apc40 before I get it.
*I am a novice to Ableton and the Apc40.
*I have seen how on Ableton you can add a limiter to the master too. Wonder if this is possible the way I want to do this.
Appreciate a response. Really need to sort this out and move on. Ta

Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
I would recomend to try out Serato with the bridge if you wanna combine ableton with a dvs. It works really well together and easy to set up. It's also official supported which means it's more stable for live use.
Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
I currently have serato but switching over to Traktor then Traktor 2 shortly.
I know its great haveing a tight synced control like the bridge for various reasons.
I just dont like how it takes up valuable realestate on my laptop screen.
The way I see it, if u going to use ableton as well do it from Ableton.
U would still be constantly checking the Ableton srcreen for various reasons anyways.
So why cram it all in.
Anyway I checked out more of the Max For Live . I think Im diggin it.
I am still trying to get my head around how you incorporate Traktor with Max.
** Would you create all your own custom presets to Control Traktor???
** Can u route the Traktor decks into channels in Ableton (with or without Max) ???

Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
Hi ya,
Yes I'd createw a tsi for traktor and program my max device to output midi to traktor...
If you use soundflower you can hijack the audio from traktor and send it back through ableton no max needed!
Cheers

Re: Apc40 running Traktor Pro & Ableton Live Simultaneously
For anyone still wondering,..
Basically, by default it is not possible.
A device mapped to other sofware will not work in ableton, you will get an error message from ableton that the device is already being used by other software. I tried this wanting to share a controller between reason and ableton which was not possible.
You also can't share the controller between for example, 2 instances of ableton. On the other hand sharing one controller between two instances of reason is no problem, so it is purely a programmatoric restriction from ableton and probably someone will be able to program around this restriction using Max 4 live. So you will probably have to wait untill someone does. I myself do not have enough knowledge for that unfortunately.
Also make sure that if you want to custom program your APC for any software, make sure you turn it off first, turn it back on so it loses its state it is in and reverts back to the original state and then program the buttons to map for instance on traktor.
When you use the APC in ableton it will automap itself by default which is great. But once you turn off ableton the APC stays in the state it was in before turning off ableton. If you then start traktor, your previously mapped controls will stop to work depending on the state your APC is in. If you turn off the apc and turn it back on it will revert to its default state and your traktor mappings will work again (assuming you mapped them starting with the default state the apc is in when turned on)
