Routing audio from Traktor to Live

Post by dannyid » Sun Aug 28, 2011 5:15 am

I'm using Traktor to scratch my own samples but can't figure out how to get the audio into Ableton.

My setup:

Mac OSX 10.5.8

DJ mixer output sending control vinyl signal to
Presonus Firebox inputs 3/4
Which is controlling Deck A in Traktor

My problem is that I can't seem to use any internal routing programs (like Sound Flower or Jack Pilot) to output Traktor's audio because I need the audio device to be the Firebox so I can use the control vinyl signal as an input.

I can send Deck A's output to some other outputs on the Firebox but can't route those to any inputs in Ableton. I'd like an option that's better than plugging 1/4" cables from the output of the Firebox into its own inputs if possible.

Anyone know of any solutions for this?

Thanks, dudes.

Okay, wow, get this.

The solution is to set up an aggregate audio device in Audio MIDI Setup on the Mac. If you combine the Firebox (or whatever audio card) and Soundflower outputs into one device, you can use that device in Traktor to both receive input from the control vinyl (via the Firebox) AND then send its outputs to SoundFlower which then gets routed into Ableton. If you monitor from Traktor, there's very little latency. I haven't tested the recording latency because I haven't recorded anything on tempo yet but I'm sure there will be some latency since it takes time to go through SoundFlower and into Live. But whatever, I'll deal.

This is awesome.
