audio loop as (tempo) master in 8.2.5 SOLVED

hi there - i am new to the forum and new to the product - still i have 15 years of experience with audio apps and i read manuals - so i should be able to get things right

i have the following problem:

if i record a drumloop from an analog drummachine (that has no exact time selction like a 606 or a 808 etc)
i just cant get live to use this loop as "master" as described in the manual (german version . page 130-131) in order to set the overall tempo of the arrangement to the original audioloop tempo

(actually i know that i could just warp the loop to "any" tempo i want or quantize it - but i just want to use the puristic original groove of the tr-machines)

or in other words: i record the audio - make a selection that makes the loop tight, trim the clip an THEN id just would like to now what the tempo of this loop is - but i have no success

what am i doing wrong? i follow the steps in the manual 1:1

so just wonder if this is a bug or if i am misising some detail

Have the clip in arrangement view, and have it warped. Then you can make Ableton Live the slave to the clip. I strongly suggest Beats mode in this case. 'Warping' is not only a way to stretch audio, but more importantly, it is a way to tell Live where every beat on your clip is. Bears mode is recommended because it does he least amount of processing to your clip. I've used slave in Vinyl/RePitch mode on a version of Live once where it made audible repitching blips at each marker. With Beats mode you are least likely to have artifacts, probably best using a quantization.

Lastly, if you want to be a mega-purist, you can always mute the warped track, and duplicate an unwrapped version below it that is lined up exactly. The warped one will still tell Live how to keep the time.

hello and thanks for the reply - "unfortunately" i am doing exactly what you have described - thats my problem - in my case it just doesnt result in that tempo automation that it should - i have seen the process via skype at a friend of mine cos i also asked him - and at his live it just works ...

solved - actually i had missed an operation (which isnt mentioned in the part of the manual i cited)
btw. as far as i read in the documentation as soon as i have a clip set to master no warping is applied to the audio - so it doesnt matter to the sound which algorithm is selected
