It’s a real no brainer for $25 a year.
Giving Apple $25 a year is a no-brainer? For what, to give strangers complete control of your music library?
Maybe this appeals more to people who walk around all day going from computer to computer, listening to an iPad in the backseat of a car, and wondering around aimlessly with various Apple gadgets stuffed in their ears.
For me, my music collection is a very personal thing, and I find it relatively easy to listen to music when I want to. Storage is really cheap. Big hard drives are dirt cheap these days.
It appears that Apple has been keeping the larger flash drives out of their iPhones to intentionally make you think you need to pay for iCloud.
I mean, I get the cloud thing, and I'm really glad I'm getting 5GB of free storage from Apple. I'm sure I'll use it, and appreciate it. But $25 a year? That's a no go. That's one of the reasons Ableton wised up and canceled Share. You're asking people to spend a bunch of money for something they can do for free with slightly more effort. Free always wins.
I have:
1 MBP (former all purpose computer, now beater)
1 iMac (now all purpose computer)
1 MB Air (DJing and minor music production)
1 Mac Mini (living room media server)
1 iPad 2
1 iPhone 4
Is it worth $2.10 a month for me to wirelessly have access to all my media for download or streaming on all those devices regardless of which it is sitting on, or how it got there, or where in the world I’m located at the time?
FUCK YES.
$2.10. A MONTH. I have a lot of issues but if that concerns or offends you I don’t know what to tell you.

Ah yeh, the thinnest laptop ever.
Re: iPad
Ya know, depending on the price, size/weight, and features I might actually consider getting the rumored upcoming Amazon tablet.
2 main reasons:
1. I buy everything except groceries from Amazon
2. The iPad is too damn heavy for reading books on/iBooks features very basic
I could probably think of other reasons but those are the main 2. I wouldn’t consider it an iPad replacement by any means.

Re: iPad
when netbooks seemed to be the new thing, GNU/Linux was so useful: free and open source. But apple and google ruined everything with such closed operative systems (iOs and Android). Is there an alternative IPAD running GNU+Linux? (i am writing this post on an ipad2, indeed...

Re: iPad
I would try some google searches but I'm pretty sure I skipped through a webpage where someone installed linux on a jailbroken ipad. Instead of going through the trouble of installing another os on an ipad, why not just jailbreak it?
And are you sure Android is closed?

Re: iPad
iOS is for Apples portable devices; iphone, ipod touch, ipad and their new mini-vacuum iSuck. It may be closed but that's part of why Apples are supposed to "just work". I don't have a problem with it, but they're slipping in the apps department; there are a lot of releases that crash. Thank god for reviews.
Saying that it runs "just apps" is short-sighted, though. It's kind of like saying a house holds "just stuff". Need to hire a hitman that will win the lottery for you and clean your kitchen but you don't want to check craigslist? There's an app for that.

Free and open source results in chaotic SHIT. WIN for hippies/socialists, though.

Re: iPad
I have:
1 MBP (all purpose production machine)
1 iPad 2 (dedicated Angry Birds hardware)
1 iPhone 4 (it's my phone)
1 PowerBook G4 (barely ever used)
1 G5 Tower (just a hunk of metal that I bang my knees into under my desk - but the damn thing still works)
1 AppleTV2
How much money do I want to give Apple to share files between them each month? Zero dollars.
Isn't most of your "media" ripped DVD's that you never watch? Are you sure you're comfortable bandying pirated stuff like that around in Apple's iThing?
