A keyboard inverter?

I was talking to a friend of mine who was a trained classical pianist before he spent a decade+ playing just guitar.

Now he finds that he plays melodies more with his left hand than his right, and we got to talking about keyboard layouts to take advantage of that....

Can anyone think of a way to basically invert the keyboard, so that the high notes are on the left, and low notes on the right? Perhaps something using the "Scale" plugin?

Many midi keyboards/synths have 'keyboard split' functions (normaly for playing different instruments/sounds on different parts of the keyboard) that probably would do fine.
I'm sure there are some vst that can do what you want as well, check out the 'pizMidi' -pack it's got:

midiKeySplit

Simple keyboard splitter. Splits the keyboard into two zones, each of which can be sent on a different channel and/or transposed separately.

Parameters:
1: OutChannel - Output channel for the first zone (below the Split Note).
1: Transpose - Number of semitones to transpose the first zone, from -48 to +48.
Split Note - First note of the second zone. Set this parameter to 0 for MIDI learn.
2: OutChannel - Output channel for the second zone (Split Note and above).
2: Transpose - Number of semitones to transpose the first zone, from -48 to +48.
InChannel - Only notes on this channel will be affected.

For a mirror image (left handed?) keyboard you would want to flip it around the middle D.

You could do it with a MIDI Rack using the keyzones and a combination of scale and pitch plugins.

It sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
