Strange controller issues with MPD32

Post by ishu » Sat Sep 03, 2011 6:00 am

Hi everyone,

I'm on Live 8.2.2 and OSX 10.6.6 on a new 13 inch i7 Macbook Pro with 4gb RAM.

I've got some weird things going on with my MPD32 and Ableton. Basically, knobs K4, K5, K6, K7 and K8 are controlling other things. I've checked in the Vyzex editor, and you can even see it on the screen of the MPD32 - none of the CC numbers are the same as any other controller that is mapped. And the even weirder thing is, K8 even controls a fader that has NO controller assigned to it.

Here's the details:
I have 6 audio tracks in the project, and the first 5 faders - F1 through F5 - are assigned to fader levels of the first 5 tracks.
Faders F6, F7 and F8 are send A levels for track 1, track 3 and track 4 respectively.
K1, K2 and K3 are send B levels for track 1, track 3 and track 4 respectively.
This is all of the controllers I've assigned for this particular set.

K4 has CC 015 assigned to it on the screen of the MPD, and in the Vyzex editor. Yet when I turn it, it changes the fader level on track 4 in the project. THere is only 1 controller assigned to fader level on track 4, and that is CC 023.
K5 has CC 016 assigned to it on the screen on MPD and in Vyzex, it also controls the fader level on track 5. The controller that is assigned to fader level track 5 is CC 024, which works with F5...but K5 also controls it!
K6 has CC 017 assigned to it on MPD screen and in Vyzex...but it controls fader level on track 6...there is NOTHING even assigned to control K6 in Ableton!

Prefs:
MPD 32 selected for Control surface, Input and Output.
MPD32 Input ON for Remote only.

Can anyone help?! I have no idea why this is happening...it's doing my head in! The only thing that makes sense is that it's confused between F4 and K4, F5 and K5 and so on...as the same number Fader and Knob are controlling the same things...except K1-K3...but that doesn't make any sense either!

Hope to hear from someone soon!

'Control Surface' is a handy feature that automatically maps your controls for you. I also does not show up in midi map mode, it is working in the background. The nice thing is that you can override it simply by assigning those faders to something else. Or if it is a real headache you can turn control surface off by deselecting your controller from it
