Surely a DAW is a "Digital Audio Workstation".

Digital audio is self explanatory.....audio that has been digitised - turned into binary 0's and 1's.

Workstation - according to http://www.techterms.com/definition/workstation is a place where work gets done.

Therefore, a DAW is defined as a place where digitised audio gets worked on.

This means to say it doesn't have to record audio/midi but just that digitised audio can be manipulated in some form or other by that station. So Audacity is a DAW, as is any portable recorder with editing features.

If someone else can redefine it as something different from the basic three words "Digital Audio Workstation", then I must be missing something out.

This is what one of the NI developers said recently:
"Excluding Kore from the future roadmap gives the developers more time for all the other products, so in that sense it makes further discontinuations less likely in the first place.

Actually Battery as well as all other current products will continue to be developed for a long time to come, with absolutely no plans to the contrary. You can take that as an official word from me."
