Question about remixing

I have a fundamental misunderstanding about remixing tracks and/or using samples from tracks in your own piece. If an acapella version of the track does not exist, and you want to sample say a couple words from the chorus, you're going to get all the instruments in the background obviously. Now people who are good at sampling can make the sample fit great into their track, so I'm wondering are people just trying to eq out the instruments as best they can or do they build their track around the sound of the sample?

You can do both, EQing it will make it lighter, then you can build around it and put it into a smooth transition. Kinda like DJing (if you do that) I like to bass transition, where I turn the low really low (not all the way, otherwise it cuts out alot) and then transition using the other tracks lows.

Remixing, you want to have a more DJ prospective and turn down the EQ to fit accordingly.

That's my suggestion.
