Wow, didn't expect so many replies. Thank you everyone who took the time to reply, i'm really looking forward to having a controller to use with live!

I am definitely going to go with the APC. Not having any controller right now, it's hard for me to tell exactly what I want/need. I think the APC will be an awesome place to start. If I find that I could use something else then I will figure that out when the time comes.

On top of all of your posts, watching a video of Pantha Du Prince rocking an APC live was really encouraging!

So if Hanz didn't make a script and share it freely, how would we all feel about it?

Who is Hanz and what is this script? :)

Personally, I don't get the people doing all these crazy controller schemes with the APC. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's cool that people are making it work the way they want and all that, but to me it just takes away from what makes the APC so awesome in the first place. The fact you can just plug it in, and bam, there you go, you can control pretty much everything you need. Don't even need a manual, it just makes sense by looking at it.

Well, probably more accurate to say "I" can control everything "I" need.

:)

Some of these custom templates just look too confusing to me, I can't even tell what people are actually doing half the time. More control sure, but I'd forget
where things were, and what I was doing probably.

I was gonna say something about perspective and then I read this.

The script is really cool, and well thought out, it does not feel like getting lost in modes, as much as other APC40 enhancements do. I use just what I need out of it, to get just a little more from the APC40.

Same here! however I tried some but as I already use the monomulator [with which I can still access default functions of the apc40], I'm super happy with mine

Dude, to hell w/ the negative comments! I can't imagine life w/o my apc40 at this point. The default mapping itself is sweet. But once you start re-mapping things that's when things get awesome. The knobs are in banks so you can re-map banks of 8, such as pans, that you don't use to whatever u want!.

It's an awesome piece of gear. Go for it. Also, you can find it cheaper than $300.

As far as controlling Live, touchAble is the one to beat imo. APCs don't give enough visual feedback and I also find it too bulky.
starving student wrote: i do not think all the bashing is gearhead lust Instead I think never before now have we had such a plethora of different controller types to choose from so people are really starting to get their needs catered to, for instance if you need to bang on some pads+ you want a hardware step sequencer+you want to control ableton+ you want an mpc sampler then maschine just simply makes sense, it's not hype it's allot of people experiencing that capability for the first time in a midi controller to this extent.
Yeah, as an all-around MIDI controller for production or live use, Maschine wins hands down.

Funny, I just found it a few seconds ago and was reading that. Looks interesting, not sure I really need any of that other functionality, but I'll give it a try.

What I like is the mirror effect function! Controlling two banks of effect or EQ macro's at the same time is pure awesome!!! Plus there is the step sequencer shiz too :D The guy is a genius!!
