House Beats, better balance / overal mix
i prefer to programme all my drums, so my stuff doesnt sound like a sample cd,
but getting the balance, mix and eq right is very difficult,
i pan shakers hare left, hard right, low cut high freq drums use groove and
try my best to get the mix right,
but im still not getting the reults im looking for, strong beats with weight
mastering is of course a factor, but some tips and methods could be useful here,
i can upload a drum track if thats more useful,

Re: House Beats, better balance / overal mix
any tips on this ?
i tend to have all drums on seperate channels then group then, but never know how to use the compressor to make them all gel, also people tell me use some flange on the hats, and saturation on overall drum group
anyone else have any tips to get the drums larger ?

First thought: bad sample selection. Your final product will only be as good as your source allows you to. I don't really think there is any magical processing that is going to make that beat stand out. What samples are you using?

A VERY wise Friend once told Me a very cool thing:
"In ALL music production, YouTube is Your BEST Friend!!"
There are some AMAZING tutorials out there which will give You ALL the knowledge You seek and more!
Good places to start?? DubSpot, Loop TV and Point Blank. FREE tutorials from some SERIOUS Producers. I am LOVING Danny J Lewis on Point Blank right about now.
All the best, hope You find what You need.

Re: House Beats, better balance / overal mix
so what sample source would anyone recommend for house? most i find the kicks and sounds are just from loops,
the kicks stll have the hat hits behind them and are not very clean really
i dont mind spending hours listening to drum hits if the end result works out, but i dont want to spend money on another sample cd that doesnt sound any better than the last one

Re: House Beats, better balance / overal mix
dont be so quick to trash drum loops, especially for house music. if you struggle with the mix taking a drum loop and cutting it up a bit or pairing it with something else to give it a new feel isn't going to make you less of a producer, will just help you get to the other aspects of the song quicker. just my two cents.
there is a video on EQing where the narrator shows you how to cut certain frequencies out to let the drums punch more IE using the spectrum to find where the kick hits hardest and cutting that sliver of frequency out of the bass line so the kick punches through clearly (using multiband dynamics to isolate the low end after the fact to see how it affects the sub range). do a youtube search i forget the name of the video. helped me a lot.
