Ableton Online Training
Ableton Online Training
Up until the last couple of days, I didn't realise how extensive the training for Ableton actually is. If you want to see what I am talking about, check out the education page: http://www.ableton.com/education. I found an institution (SAE) in my city (Melbourne) that does a 6 month course for $3900AUD. It looks good but on the expensive side working out to be about $40 per hour of study.
Berklee online looks great but about double the price and it's really hard to guage whether or not this would be as good as face to face teaching with an instructor. It's really hard to work out whether or not it is value for money because there is no actual face to face communication. The Berklee 3 month course is about $3900 as well.
Anyway, had experience with serious Ableton education? Know of any other good online courses which would offer something in the ballpark of what Berklee is offering?
The SAE course is actually a formal qualification (Australian Certificate III). Has anyone else hd any experience with formal qualifications in their local city?

Hi
It really depends on what you are hoping to get out of it.
If you want to get into the academic side of things, then you could convert your Cert 3 into credit towards a degree down the line, or combine it with another degree to get into teaching/lecturing. But if you were going to do that I'd be more inclined to look at a university anyway.
If you just want to learn how to use Live, then it's a huge expense and private tutoring is probably going to be far more valuable to you. And there are loads of people in Melbourne who could help you there. Danny Bonnici is someone I can vouch for who really knows is stuff.
If you want some online video training, Groove 3 has a lot of Ableton content, by myself [/shameless] and other regular of this forum Timothy Allan. I recommend the all access pass and you can watch anything on their site for 30 days for about $30 USD - Bargain!
It's in my sig.
cheers

Yes. All good advice. I guess what I'm looking for is to be thrown in to a competitive situation where it's a matter of writing and finishing good music or failing. That kind off thing brings out the best in me. The problem with tutorial videos is that they are not interactive. There's nobody hounding you about an assignment you haven't handed in yet, and you're not forced to stay up until 3am putting the finishing touches on assignment. I'd be happy to do a degree, but as far as I know, there are no degrees in making electronic music. There are a bunch of music performance degrees that I used to want to work toward, but I lost interest in performing with a physical instrument and now I'm much more interested in performing with Ableton.

I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find something like that at a Melbourne Uni. There are several here and on the coast, and Melbs is much more of a music hub. Have you looked at the conservatorium? You'll probably find music departments offer performance AND production streams.Kruddler wrote:Yes. All good advice. For Ableton training, I highly recommend Keith from Quantize Courses at www.quantizecourses.com.
High standard of tuition, personalized video feedback on your assignements along with a weekly chat and a very nice guy to boot. Also way cheaper than either SAE or Berklee. You lots learn about Ableton but also lots about music production in general. To be honest I don't think you'll find a better course / trainer.

Timothy Allan @ groove3.com and Olav Basoski @ macprovideo.com are great!
Also, Medway's Ableton School @ medwaystudios.com
If you live in Melbourne you really need to hook up with Tim. I'm sure he does 1-to-1 in his studio.
