Live Compressor Hidden Feature (Use it as Aux Send/Return)
Recently i´ve trying to make infinite feedback delay rack. But there is no sends or returns in Audio Efect Racks. So i´ve came up with this little patch idea:
Basicaly we are going to use a Compressor as a Aux Return in a rack.
1) Create a Audio Effect Rack and name it "Awesome Delay Rack"
2) Create three chains, Dry, Wet, Feedback.
3) Dry Chain: "nothing"
4) Wet Chain: "Compressor">>>"Delay"
Compressor settings:
Ratio: 1:1
Lookahead: 0ms
Makeup: OFF
Sidechain: ON
Sidechain listen: ON <<< very important! (otherwise you wont hear the feedback)
Sidechain Dry/Wet: 50%
Sidechain Gain: -inf dB (this will control the amount of feedback, so map it to Macro 1 in the Rack and name it "Feedback")
Audio from: 1-Audio, Awesome Delay Rack, Feedback Post Fx
(it doesnt have to be 1-Audio, but it has to be the track you have put the Rack into, put it on "Drums" for example, so it would be like this: Drums, Awesome Delay Rack, Wet Post Fx)
Simple Delay settings:
Feedback: 0%
Dry/Wet: 100%
Set the repeat time to anything you want.
5)Feedback chain: Mute this chain and put a "Compressor"
Compressor settings:
Almost the same as in Wet Chain, just copy it to the Feedback Chain and change this:
Sidechain gain: 0dB
Sidechain Dry/Wet: 100% Wet
Audio from: 1-Audio, Wet Chain Post Fx
DANGER!!! Before you rise the Feedback parameter you asigned on your Macro 1, you should turn down your volume as it will get VERY LOUD!
I recommend putting a compressor with inf. ratio after the Audio Effect Rack we´ve created so it doesn´t get any louder or distorted.
Have Fun.

Re: Live Compressor Hidden Feature
Cool tip. I usually use the Compressors as modular aux send/returns.
Only problem is tho, that there will be some small buffer latencies, so the feedback chain in your example suffers from this. But if thats your thrill (i personally want mine only to be colored by my chain and nothing else), go for it!

Are you sure about buffer latencies? I mean if you put 0 lookahead on a compressor you should have no latencies at all. Or there is something Im not aware of?

Not sure about the technical aspects of it all, but i deffenitly get a buffery kinda of doubled sound thru the chain. I believe it may change with the buffer latency.. Not happening when doing this thru the Sends btw.

Allright now i see, i messed a little with the feedback chain, im going to EDIT the original post and edit it one more time to include the correct routing. It seems i doubled the audio stream somewere.

Done, try it out and tell me if you still notice some doubling effects.
