Reproducing this ultra-low, deep bass sound
Reproducing this ultra-low, deep bass sound
The Vladislav Delay track heard at the beginning of this mix features a low-frequency bass sound that repeats intermittently. I'm wondering how I can reproduce this in Live with one of the inbuilt instruments like Analog or Operator. I've tried a bit with Analog but can't get it all that close. Suggestions appreciated.

Use the default operator patch, and play around with the pitch envelope, you should be able to get something similar. Maybe add a touch of saturation.

So you mean the really deep subby bass sound at the start.
Since I was curious about this too (an just a beginner) I loaded up Analog, changed the shape to SINE and the F1/F2 all the way up to F1 (I'm not using the filter but for some reason it makes a difference).
Under AMP I changed the Attack to 31ms, Decay all the way down, Sustain all the way up and Release to 600ms or so.
I turned Analog's volume up a bit to 3.2dB and placed a Limiter after it just in case.
Play an A#0

What's weird is that it sounds like there's some kind of subtle pitch envelope that goes up quickly then down slowly even though there isn't one. Just having the quick attack and slow-ish release makes it sound that way on such a low sound.
I tried it with Operator and it just sounds too "clean" compared to Analog.

Yep, correcto. It starts in at about 04:00dentaku wrote:So you mean the really deep subby bass sound at the start.
I went back and tried both instruments and I see that I should have just kept it simple as you guys have done. I went with Operator and an attack on Osc A (the only oscillator enabled) of ~10 ms and a release ~5.00 s.
A Saturator with the 'Warm Up Lows' preset (uses the analog curve type) gives the sound some more grit (try playing with the drive some). The A#0 seems to be about spot on too.
The trick to get that engine-turning-off type sound on the tail of the sound is to use pitch (following twisted-space's suggestions).
I enabled the Pitch Env and set it to 49%. I then set the Pitch section as follows:

The pitch release is a second shorter than the Osc A pitch, ~ 3.8 s. The end is -48 st (to transpose the sound down to its limit).
I brought the instrument volume up a few dBs. Then, to bring out the decay further I added a Compressor with a -24 dB Threshold after the Saturator. Voila.
Sounds pretty darn close. Thanks for the help.
What do you guys think?

That works too
