Are you on AT&T and want to know if you qualify for an early iPhone upgrade?
Call (NOT TEXT) *639#. Your iPhone will then tell you that you will be receiving a message and soon after you'll get a text about your eligibility.
I was one of those assholes that stood in line outside an Apple store on the day of release of the iPhone 4 (NEVER again
). The text said I could get an iPhone 5 for $18 with a new 2 year contract.
Not sayin' I'll do it. Just sayin'.

Re: iPad
Most intelligent thing I read about the ”Kindle iPad killer” reporting (paraphrased): iPads are already replacing laptops for some people and with a few more years of improvements will continue to do so for more and more people. The Kindle isn’t going to replace anybody’s laptop and isn’t trying to.
Truth.
Truth.

WTF is up with manufacturers that make accessories for iPods/iPhones with a dock but it can’t fit your iPod/iPhone in the dock if it has a case on it?!? And I mean any case. Fucking assholes. I’d have to call the fire department to bring the jaws of life to try to pry the case off my iPod Classic and even that might not work.

Re: iPad
Funny you should say that, because I still use my 30g 5G Classic that I've had since XMas 2005, plus the case it came with (and they totally got the right one for me) and I've never had h/w or s/w probs with it, even after heavy experimentation of changing firmwares and OS's. And I wonder how much having a case on it all that time has made a difference in it's life. (Sure I've dropped it a few times)
Yet with my 4G Touch I've been careless about getting a case for it; I like it naked, yet I bet it's more delicate than than the ol Classic. wtf

On my old iPod Classic I have a thick rubber military grade case on it so I feel secure when I throw it around and I can understand docks not accommodating that, but I just got a new Classic (which Apple is rumored to discontinue shortly so scoop em up), and there is like literally only 3 cases available for it. I got the mid thickness one cause I want some kind of bump buffer, not just trying to keep it from getting scratched. And fuck if it won’t fit in the dock for the battery powered speaker I just got.

Re: iPad

Re: iPad
The last thing I want is some underpowered glorified color e-reader. I mean, ffs. Like I need one more fucking thing to carry around and update and manage? Fuck that. Besides the price, Amazon's got nothing.
I'm happy that you all seem happy, but here's what I wanted from Amazon:
Twice the motherfucking power of the iPad2.
Something besides motherfucking Android. ffs, kill me now.
Half the weight of the iPad2.
Able to run Flash.
A fucking semblance of decent file/folder structure and not the goofy Android SHIT equivalent.
Something to finally open/run the entire Office suite without SHIT translations.
Should I continue?
Jesus H. Christ.
Instead of a robust fucking amazing tablet platform that would TRULY give the iPad a run for it's money, we get a color eReader that house fraus and retirees are going to love.
It's the stupidest fucking comment in this entire thread that the Fire isn't trying to be a laptop replacement. FFS. In less than a year, when the iPad3 comes out and it's twice the firepower and half the weight and has an entry at less than $500, the new Amazon tablet will be yet another in a long line of tablets that no one is going to fucking remember.
Amazon blew it, plain and simple.
Netbooks <---- also didn't try being laptops. How's that working out for the netbook industry?

i think readers have a market though. we're enamored with over complicated swiss army knife style tech these days. after the last decade's barrage of specs sheets and acronyms i think some people welcome the simplicity... more than you'd think.
