Automap V4 beta
For any novation users out there, the latest V4 is in beta testing and is doing pretty well:
http://beta.novationmusic.com/
It now works with OSX Lion and has a much improved set up process that walks you through set up for any DAW. Also integrates all the "Pro" features and improves a bunch of stuff. They've also moved the default location of automapped VSTs into the system VST folder. I used to always move mine into the system folder from the user folder because then the automap and non-automap versions were interchangeable, if you remove the automap software, the regular ones load fine. And if you've already made tracks with the regular versions, they will now show up as automap versions. Waaaaaaaayyyy better this way.

Re: Automap V4 beta
They sent me beta 2 weeks back, installed it, didnt have much time to play with it, but neither noticed it = good thing, everything works (better) and I dont have to bother, the previous version had some weird behaviors every now and then.

what kind of weird behaviour that is now gone ?rikhyray wrote:the previous version had some weird behaviors every now and then.

It doesn't fix either of those problems.
Re: Automap V4 beta
Will try out! I'm really looking forward to being able to map key commands without pro.

Hi
I'm Rob Jones, and I'm going to try to convince you that an extra layer of shit between you and your sounds, is a good idea.

I'd have to hear an argument that it's not a good idea to know what you mean. It's by far the easiest way to have control over all parameters in your plug-uns and it records directly to automation rather than nameless midi data. You map a plug-in once and then never worry about it again. Not exactly difficult.condra wrote:Hi

The automap software is an extra bit of software, but it opens automatically, you never notice it really. I guess you're not in to ipad controllers like touchable, griid etc. since those all have dedicated server software too. or things like Kore? I find them pretty useful myself.

Randomly Live at start hanged on loading input/outputs till you close Automap.Coupe70 wrote:what kind of weird behaviour that is now gone ?rikhyray wrote:the previous version had some weird behaviors every now and then.

More protocol, more bugs. More groups involve, it gets harder to find where bugs really are. Re: Automap V4 beta
Not really. See the beauty of automap with VSTs is that you can remove it any time and it doesn't affect anything. When you move the automap versions out of your VST folder, your entire set loads regular plug-ins only and it is all as if automap never existed. If you ever get a recurring bug and think it might be automap, or if you are ever concerned about stability (for example for a show), you can temporarily remove them and put them back later if you want. By the time you have a performance set up, automap wouldn't be that valuable because you would probably have your main performance controls mapped out using Ableton's instant mapping instead (with an APC40 or the Ableton template of the Novation SL etc.). Automap is really more valuable at the time of song writing, sound design and so forth, you already have every parameter mapped, no midi mapping or anything. And I've never found it buggy enough that it has interrupted a workflow in that respect.pencilrocket wrote:More protocol, more bugs. More groups involve, it gets harder to find where bugs really are. So no I don't believe it adds any Chaos, I think it's quite simple. And sure I've had the odd sudden crash of Live when I'm adding a plug-in or changing a preset and I don't always know if it's Live, the plug-in or autoamp, but the thing is I've never come across a reproducible bug that I've had to figure out. If I needed to though, like I said I'd just remove automap VSTs to test. Actually there have even been times when automap has made a plug-in usable. For example Arturia ARP 2600 didn't used to show up in Kore. However when I made an automap version, that would show up. So automap made the 2600 usable in Kore. Nice bonus.

Re: Automap V4 beta
I've heard of Nocturn problems before but I've never had a nocturn. Personally I don't see the point of it ata ll. There are only 8 knobs and no screen. I'd rather just use ableton's instant mapping with any old generic device of 8 knobs and just arrange the parameters by device configuration. That's what I do for quick controls. I have an SL61 mkI and an SL25 mkII.twisted-space wrote:@ Glitch, are you saying you dont have either of these issues?pencilrocket wrote:8.1.4 + Novation Nocturn Automation Problems

As for the jerky problems, I haven't had that. Looks like it has something to do with the audio device being used as well. I use an RME Fireface 400 and haven't seen that. BUT, I've been away from home for a few months and got a bit behind on updates and haven't been doing serious work with the latest software. I just recently upgraded to Lion when I came home once I heard that everything I use is now compatible (Live, Native Instruments, autoamp etc.) and updated much of my software and have only had time to check that everything seems to be working normally on t he surface. I can't comment on automation using automap. I also have an APC40 though, so I'll usually use that instead after configuring a plug-ins parameters. Automap is usually for the experimenting stages and tweaking presets and that kind of thing. I will test that though and see how it goes.

Re: Automap V4 beta
I didn't talk about how we use it but reasonable theory. No one can be excluded from it even Bill Gates. The simpliciy(technically) always superior to the complexity. It's theory of the universe and also for the technology relying on math.glitchrock-buddha wrote:Not really.
