Re: Eh, Reason 6 Demo can't rewire to Ableton?
I seem to recall some mention of 64bit V 32bit rewire conflicts. i.e. 64bit Reason 6 can't be rewired to a 32 bit host ?
Maybe I picked it up wrong, I don't own reason, so I don't have much of a vested interest in remembering those kind of details.
But it's something I'd double check if I were you. are there 32bit & 64bit versions of the application/demo ?

I am running reason 6 in "run with internet verification" mode and is not rewiring into latest version of ableton live... very frustrating.

So Reason 6 is incompatible with Live until Live goes 64-bit? That's nice to know!
Yet another reason not to upgrade Reason from 4 - even though the new version looks ace. Just finished downloading the demo, gonna give it a whirl.

Re: Eh, Reason 6 Demo can't rewire to Ableton?
from the readme3. Using Reason with ReWire on a 64-bit operating system
If you are running a 64-bit OS, Reason will automatically install and run in 64-bit mode. However, if you are using
ReWire, there are a couple of extra considerations:
* Both the ReWire host and Reason must run in the same mode (32-bit or 64-bit).
* To use ReWire in 64-bit mode, the ReWire host application must have support for 64-bit ReWire. If not, you
need to run both programs in 32-bit mode.
Here's how you run Reason in 32-bit mode under Mac and Windows, respectively:
Mac
1. Make sure Reason isn't running.
2. Select the Reason application in the Finder and choose "Get Info" from the File menu.
3. Turn on the option "Open in 32-bit Mode".
The next time you launch Reason it will run in 32-bit mode.
Windows
Under Windows, you need to install a separate 32-bit version of Reason:
1. Open the Reason DVD (or the Reason download package, if you have downloaded the program from the web)
in the Windows Explorer.
2. Right-click the "Install Reason.exe" file and select "Create Shortcut".
If the file is on the DVD, you will be asked if you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop - click Yes.
3. Locate the shortcut you just created, right-click it and select "Properties".
4. On the "Shortcut" page of the Properties dialog, locate the Target field and add " /32" (without the quotes) at
the very end. The Target field should say
"D:\Install Reason.exe" /32
(although the drive letter may not be "D", depending on your setup).
5. Click OK.

yeah, make sure it opens in 32 bit like he said.. and i paid $10 for mine.. really just wanted Alligator.. it's like 3 instances of camelspace in one

Maaaaan... I played around with the demo yesterday, and it made me realise how much we take for granted with Live. Looking at all those panels, colours and windows gave me a headache. I really like Reason in principle, but that whole rack design is sooooo passé! The "replace hardware" phase is over: the hardware has been duly replaced, time to move on and design the application to work better on a computer monitor.
I have to admit, the promo videos made me excited, but I've realised that there's absolutely nothing in Reason that I can't already do in Live.

If the GUI isn't for you, it isn't for you. It's not for me either.
But the ''replace hardware'' phase isn't over. Not by a long stretch. Reason and it's faux-hardware paradigm are great for educational purposes. And it's a niche they more-or-less have to themselves. End of story.

Sorry, mate, but if you need to flip a virtual rack and see a virtual cable on a screen in order to grasp the concept of the signal flow, you ought to start pondering just who's actually inside the bubble.

He never stated that the faux-hardware gui is his preference, only that you were wrong about it being a 'phase' that was 'over'
He's right, you're wrong.
He's right, you're wrong.

I intended "you" as a non-specific pronoun, as in "if one needs ...". I can guarantee you that washed-out analogue synth gurus are a minority in Reason's user base, and whether you are (sorry: whether one is) a part of that minority or not: when you're sitting in front of Reason on a computer screen, what's on-screen should be as streamlined for that context as possible. Reason isn't. I realise, however, that Reason does have its (more than) fair share of vociferous fanboys who will defend every aspect about it till the bitter end, and, in a way, I couldn't care less, as I've Replaced Reason a long time ago.
