Akai MPK Mini / Mapping

I am trying to map the drum pads and knobs on the mpk mini to various parameters and controls in live 8 and my soft synths. All i can do is play back my synths through the keyboard (like it should) and the sounds also play when i hit the pads. So this is all good except i cannot properly map anything like a filter cutoff on a synth to say one of the knobs,or set up some drum hits and map them to the pads. I am sure its a case of setting all this up with the mpk mini editor software,but i have always found this quite confusing. There is now an MPK Mini showing in the control surface drop down menu in preferences,which when it first came out was not there.So Ableton must have included it in a recent update. So i have it set to that and all the input/outputs are showing,so as far as i can tell its set up properly. I just cannot fathom how to map it to any softsynths or any controls within live.

Do you have skype or something? I have an MPK 49, I could probably screen share and show you. If not, its still quite easy. Let me know if you just want me to explain on here.
