Constant problem with arm button - Live doesn't working

Hello,

Please, I've been with a constant and serious problem happening with Live. I've updated last week to the last version so the problem doesn't come from old bugs.

When I open a new project and I try to arm the record button in an audio track, I can't do it and appears a message box like "the file 0001-audio wav could not be openned" and the arm button works no more. I close live and open again and the problem persists. Only if I go to Manage files and try to delete this file (doesn't work all the time) or if I close the session and when asked if I want to delete the temporary files and HAVE to choose leave in place, the program closes and when open again working but a few time later, randomly the problem comes again. Everytime this problem comes when I try to record from an ext audio from mic or even if just try to arm an audio track. It's been impossible to work like this.

I'm very worried about this issue because I also have a laptop with Live and have this on live stage would be horrible. What I have to do solve this? I've been trying to search at foruns and some say it's necessary to delete the preferences.cfg file, clean cache or even choose another folder for Temp files, is it an good option? Or the best would be unistall completely Live from computer?

Please, if some one could help me about this issue I would be extremely grateful, I'm totally lost on it and need to work.

Thank you for you kind reply. Nobody could helped me so far, even Ableton support didn't reply me, perhaps they can't figure out what it can be...

I did exactly as you said but the problem persists. Any arm button from audio tracks when pressed, open the box with the message I have told you and don't stay active. I also tryied to clean the cache, delete the preferences.cfg file and also the temp folders at the Live Recordings folder and nothing. I don't know what to do, I'm two days working to fix it and can't do it in any way. Do you believe if I format all my HD (and gosh, there are a lot of softwares to reinstall) and reinstall Live from zero, can solve the problem? I'm affraid to have all this work and the problem come back... Then, it will be insane. Do you know if this problem have hapenned with others besides me?

Hey Peter,

Yes you are right, this problem is happening with windows (XP). My laptop is a Mac pro but has presented no problem at all so far (but I have to say I have not been using it lately since I'm more on studio).
The directory in my computer is a little bit different, it's like:

C:\Documents and Settings\<my name>\App Data\Ableton\Live 8.2.2\Preferences\

Inside this last folder, there are two folders (Crash and User Remote), two txt files (AsioLog and Log) and two cfg files (Preferences and Library). There is no Template.als file at all.

I've tried to find it in Windows Explorer but couldn't too. Maybe I have to create one? How do I do it?

I've just did Peter, Ableton starts new indeed. But it asks to authorize in Ableton site...

If I have to do it, perhaps it's better to uninstall Live and install it again brand new, and clean all crash logs, folders and something more what's there and I don't know, what do you think?

By the way, do you think after I do it and have a brand new Live folder structure, this problem can come back again?

I was having the same problem as the OP.

I remembered that I had recently changed my default live set, so I suspected that had somehow caused the problem. I tried the suggestion Peter made in the 2nd post in this thread. It did not work, but I noticed that I did not hold the "Shift" key down throughout the process.

I tried Peter's suggestion again, this time holding the "Shift" key down through the entire process (Live asks you a question, and you must hold the shift key down as you answer the question). Well, it worked!

I got a new live set with just two tracks on it, one audio and one midi. And, I could arm the tracks! What a relief!

I suggest anyone having this problem follow the instruction in the 2nd post in this thread made by Peter. Just hold the Shift key down until you get a new default live set.

ABLETON PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM! I'm running Live 8.2.5 on a brand new macbook pro and I'm still having the same problem! I use the pads on an MPK49 to arm tracks but it randomly doesn't arm exclusively like everyone else is saying, extremely inconvenient for live performance!
