Love that Harvey Keitel dude though, classic character.

Wow. I look at this show a lot differently. Meth is absolute poison. It destroys everybody it touches in the show.

Think how awful it would be if drugs were legalized. Anybody could buy penicillin. Morons would use it like candy and super-bacteria would develop (and everyone would be hurt). Teenagers would be chomping oxycodone like candy; and parents would be crying. PCP in the household--it would be devastating. Cocaine psychosis would become commonplace. Driving would be really expensive and the DUI laws would become super-tough. Imagine dependency court if drugs were legalized--it would be even worse for the little children of dopehead parents than it is now.

Some drugs should be legal, just like alcohol and nicotine are legal. But other drugs should NEVER be legalized--meth, PCP, and penicillin, for example, must be restricted. In my opinion the debate should always be over particular drugs--not all drugs in general.
well I'm not really meaning over the counter, it would have to be regulated of course, but the point is most of the issues the show outlines are actually more due to the fact that it's illegal. At the moment manufacture and distribution is controlled by gangsters - hence the prohibition analogy - all the prohibition did was make a lot of money for people on the black market, which also lead to dangerous moonshines that were toxic, could make people blind etc etc..... because the people getting into it knew people would get whatever they could, so they made dodgy bootlegs.

likewise, drugs are made underground with no concern for how toxic they are so there is no doubt that they are far more dangerous than they could be if they were manufactured under strict guidelines to minimise negative effects.

The 'war on drugs' is a total failure and always will be because the demand is so high and there is so much money in it, so better to actually do all possible to reduce the damage.

Plus at the moment all the profits are untaxed, yet society still has to foot the bill for all the problems they create. If it was taxed the revenue could be used towards fixing those problems, including better research into how, and education to use them properly etc. Not to mention that you would also be taking a huge chunk of income away from organised crime etc..

Plus it would open the way for developing "healthy" ways of taking them - like maybe a cannabis inhaler for example that doesn't involve smoke to reduce lung damage.

And cocaine for example - if you look at how it's manufactured currently it's scary - they use petrol as the solvent and caustic soda and things like that, then it gets cut with all kinds of crap, making the purity very low so people take more of it. And people still take it in the millions. If it was regulated they would be able to use safer alternatives as it could be made in proper labs with better solvents etc and make it purer.

Of course the problems wouldn't go away, but it would be easier to minimise some of them because people would be able to tackle it as a civilised society rather than pretending it's not there and leaving it in the hands of gangsters.

I am finishing up my RN license requirements. I have been spending some time in an ER. Had a patient who chose not to take his ani virals for his AIDS, but instead used that money for meth and alcohol, which resulted in a seizure, fall, and epi dural hematoma (bad boo boo on brain)....
I have to agree with you. This poor soul has no money for meds, and the taxpayer will foot the bill for his hospitalization. He is an addict, no doubt and nothing will alter his urge and need for the drugs. Because he is an AIDS sufferer, it is even more important to have him "in the system", regulating his access to drugs so he does not infect others through risky behavior in order to get money to supply his habit.

I'm really getting into BWE now - what a fantastic show

I'm loving that Omar is back from the dead - I was gutted when he got killed in the Wire

what a fantastic scene when he's with the Ku Klux cyclops dude and his old man's carpentry tools

"what you going to do with them?"
"well.... I aint buildin no bookcase"

Gus is going to figure out how to make the product himself--he videotapes everything. Jesse will soon be expendable. Walt and Gus are locked in mortal combat now.

There will be plenty of conflict next season.

Tonight's going to be another awesome night of Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire viewing. :P

I also have high hopes for American Horror Story premiering this week. FX usually does some solid shows and the video of the first 10 minutes of the first episode they released on the net was promising.

Gus doesn't have time to cook, and he probably wouldn't even consider putting himself in that position.
I'm thinking it's going to be a quick showdown where all the major players end up involved. Let's not forget about Mike, and I don't see him being blindly loyal to Gus.
Hank is hoping to find something fishy from a picture or something...
I'm thinking we'll see Gus get shot in the had (from back or front, who knows) from someone we may not expect it from, like Mike, or Hank, even the wifey. At least by the last show.
All I know is it's nice to see Jesse and Walt working together.

My fave comedian/comedian interviewer will be interviewing Bryan Cranston on his "WTF" podcast available Thursday.

From the newsletter:

"Moving on to Thursday, I had the same issue with Bryan Cranston… I mean, shit, it’s fucking Mr. White. I have some serious questions for Walter White but I had to talk to Bryan Cranston instead. Again, great actor, great guy, but he is not Walter White. And, no, I would not have asked him for the meth recipe. I may have asked how he can live with himself and why do I still like him. I guess that last part is on me. It’s interesting to me that when you are a fan and you get to meet people you idolize and they are actors there is a fine line between disappointment that the character you are obsessed with doesn’t exist and complete awe of acting talent. In between those two things is just a dude… Damn. Why can’t life be like the movies?"

I know it spun me out when I realised he was the one of Malcolm in the middle - it was my son that watched it so I didn't pay that close attention, but I never would have made that connection in a million years.

I think Boardwalk empire needs it's own thread - I'm liking it even more than BB at the moment.....

and just to hammer the point home, here's some chicks with Steve Buscemi's eyes.

Yeah!!
Walt has grown a bit to attached to the role he adopted as a necessary evil. It's a power corrupts thing I reckon.
