I had the same problem with Ableton crashing like crazy on my MAC INTEL OS 10.6.8. Then I realized I was using both VST and Audio Units formats for plug-ins. To make a long story short, after going back and forth with Ableton tech support over email (which was very helpful), I found out that VST is a terrible format for Ableton. I would highly recommend avoiding any VST versions of plug ins (especially Melodyne) and using only AU!!!!! As soon as I did this I had zero problems. However, I believe that WAVES plug ins only work in VST format, which doesn't have any problems. So... with the exception of WAVES, I would use everything else possible in AU!!

Hope this helps,

Marko G

I heard exactly the opposite, that for most plugs, the vst version is better coded then the au's.

interesting.

i haven't really had any issues with live for a while but when i have it has nearly always been AU related (10.6.8 & 8.2.1)... vst's have been solid.

it's been the same story on the workstations i manage at work ... i just dont use AU's anymore

Looks like one of you quit using AUs & the problems stopped, while one of you quit using VSTs & the problems stopped. Maybe using AUs & VSTs together can cause some issues? Just a shot in the dark... :?:

yeah possibly oblique. with my work imacs (8 of them) i had issues with AU plugs on their own though, the vst's hadn't been activated. it wasn't until i deactivated them and went over to vst that the problems stopped.

i should also say that i encountered these problems on V7... things may be different now but i've stuck with vst on V8 and not had any issues.

It's amazing, a lot of vexing problems stop the minute I turn off my computer!
