I use soundbooth, but I don't know why windows media explorer wouldn't work.

Ableton does not have that possibility; you can not convert or even save in MP3 format.

You can use Itunes, Audacity or other free tools for converting to MP3.

I'd suggest to try Audio Converter Studio for processing MP3 and other formats. It supports batch mode and can create folder structure for the tracks as well
