live setup - noob question

Post by shanepats_88 » Sat Oct 22, 2011 10:50 pm

hey all,

before i start - i am a complete noob with ableton. i've been teaching myself how to use it, so i am by no means an expert.

i currently use a roland rd-700gx keyboard for playing live in the alt rock band i play with, but with the weight and size of the thing, it is extremely difficult to transport.
i have a novation 49sl MkII midi keyboard that i use with ableton suite 8. i also have a launchpad which i use occasionally for production.

my question is - what is the easiest way to use my novation + ableton for my live rig? i would much prefer to carry around a small midi keyboard and a laptop than a huge stage piano. what do i need to make it work? is there any sites where i can get a crash course in using these products in a live setting?

i know i'll be limited somewhat, but this is more for convenience sake.

any help would be appreciated! thanks!

If you are playing synth and samples, you might be able to get away with just putting your drummer on a click track so that the percussion matches the bpm of the samples.

If it's just synth, you probably have no problem just playing it live.

I run samples with a live band and I just put the drummer on a click. One out for the drummer, one out for the house system. I may start running all instruments and vocals through the audio interface and in and out of ableton as well so that live effects can be placed on vocals, etc...haven't done it yet but I've heard that can be done too.
