So I am a 1 day old Ableton user, coming over from the live DJ side with Traktor, I wanted to produce more studio-quality mixes. So forgive what will probably be a basic question.
Transitioning between tracks are simple, but it seems that if I want to apply an effect to say the end of a track (not an independent audio track, but a segment of an existing track) that the only way to do that is to cut the last 16 bars or so out of the existing track, stage it into another audio segment, and then apply the effects. It seemed any effect that I tried to apply to a highlighted/selected area of a long track applied it to the entire track.
So am I reading into this right. Any transition needs to be applied to the entire staged track? Or am I doing it wrong?

Figure out your outro effects and make groups of them, then you just turn your effect set on at the moment you want it to start. Alternately you can set your FX up on one of the subs and fade into that sub as the song ends. If you're just mixing down then you can play with each method to see which one sounds best, adjusting exactly when the FX turn on or how quickly you ramp up the input to the sub.
