Monitors stop playing

Ok, I have this problem that appeared lately..

I am on a Mac using the 2G KRK 5" monitors together with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio interface. I've also got a little app called SoundSource, which basically helps you quickly swap between the various outputs and inputs you have.

So what happens is this: oftentimes when I listen to music on iTunes from my monitors the music stops and I have to go to SoundSource under output, select internal speakers (music starts playing again) and then reselect FastTrack Pro in order to hear it from the monitors.

I've noticed that this mostly happens when one track ends and the next one is about to start or when I copy files from my external hard drive to the computer. Also, FYI my music is stored on the external hard drive and I'm currently having 4 USB cables connected to my laptop through a multiple USB port.

This problem doesn't occur when I hear music that's stored in the laptop or with YouTube videos (at least it hasn't happened yet).

It actually not only happens with iTunes but with everything. Could it be related to the amount of USB cables I have connected to my computer?

Any help would be great.
