Yeah, the iCloud thing feels pretty unfinished so far. My iCal subscriptions are all pretty messed up now, and I still don't understand why I have to manually clear notifications on the iPad if I've already checked them with the iPhone (and vice versa). Definitely not as brainless and behind the scenes as it needs to be yet.

What amazes me with much is how the hell they got record companies to agree to it

Ie streaming copies to folks wherever and however they got their copy of a track - maybe they are getting kickbacks from carriers for the extra data usage - might be why the useless bastards by the name of orange in the uk have cut back their included data allowances on new contracts - grrrr

Between sites like Pandora that stream random tracks based on a song or artist you choose and Slacker where you can stream entire specific albums on demand without having to purchase anything in advance, I think Apple is the least of the music industry’s problems.

I’ve never really trusted proprietary application based syncing between multiple computers and devices. That’s one of the main reasons I mainly use gmail as opposed to my other email accounts that aren’t web based.

This is what's needed. Badly.

A simple local wifi device that hooks up to the HDMI input on a TV. You then mirror your iPad 2 screen to this device > the TV.

I'm not talking the AppleTV2 - which requires a wifi network.

I'm talking a simple interface that could be easily taken around and setup anywhere for presentations.

Somehow I missed this before:

Android, the OS is open source, and really awesome teams of amateur (or not) developers have been porting Android to unintended devices for the duration of the platform's existence.

That represents and affects about .00000001% of the buying public.

Tell that to everyone whose iPhone 3G I had to replace with a 3GS when they updated to iOS4, their shit stopped working, and Apple refused to provide a downgrade method.

You're right that only geeks know/care about this stuff, but you'd be amazed how many people have a geek in their life taking care of this stuff for them (i.e. people whose iPhones are jailbroken and unlocked to run on T-Mobile even though they don't mean what "jailbreak" or "unlock" mean.)

I decided not to resurrect the Apple TV thread for this...

But now there's speculation that the iTV will run off apps as opposed to traditional channel surfing which makes a lot of sense and makes me . So networks would make their own apps and it would be up to them to make them as kick ass or suck ass as they want and possibly with a subscription option. That seems like a tall order but then you have to remember how many companies started churning out iPhone and iPad apps once the popularity was proven.

But if this is the case I have one demand. If these apps are going to include commercials similar to what is going on with internet streaming sites FOR FUCK SAKE KEEP THE VOLUME OF THE COMMERCIAL WITHIN AN INSANE PROXIMITY OF THE SHOW YOU ARE WATCHING! I'm fucking tired of the 4,000 db average difference between the commercial and the video I'm trying to watch.

The law was a joke, if you look at the limits it's still rediculously loud that commercials can be and not break the law. Token gesture.

And the commercials blare the loudest if the target demographic is old people or women. I somewhat get old people even though you can assume their TV is already loud to begin with, and I guess for women it falls under "the bitch doesn't listen" assumption. I couldn't tell you how many times I've fallen asleep with the TV on only to be jolted awake by a commercial for makeup or celebrity endorsed zit cream.

well, it's more of a man's world in audio/soundman land. careful though. you're helping to build a suit for sexual inequality. remember, somehow it's men's fault if the industry was conceived and sought after by those who have the penis.
