Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
I copied this from the Help Exchange forum, as i found it searching but no one had replied, i apologize for the double post
"When I am editing midi notes in a Live 8 clip, I have noticed that after I select some notes and make an adjustment , the notes I had selected shortly deselect themselves after I start playing the clip.
This is extremely annoying because it means that every time I wish to make a new adjustment I have to stop the clip looping and reselect the same notes again!
In Live 7 the notes stay selected until you click elsewhere.
What is the benefit of the notes deselecting themselves like that?!
Is there a workaround?"
i have the exact same question. Except mine does it even when the clip is NOT EVEN PLAYING!! What setting changes this? This isn't a default setting in Live 8, it's worked fine for me up until today (i think?), what is going on??
All i want is for the note to stay selected until i click on another note!!!
I've tried turning everything off in my MIDI preferences, and that didn't help. i do lots of editing in MIDI, and this is killing me already, someone help please

Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
I didn't solve the problem, BUT, if your midi clip is inside a Group, double-click the GROUP that the midi clip is in, the notes in the clip that opens WILL stay selected when you move them around! Unfortunately this only works if your group has ONLY ONE column of midi clips. If you have more than one in the group, this doesn't work.
Not a total fix but this will at least help

Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
deselect all your midi remote scripts in midi preference and see if the behaviour is the same. griid / livecontrol both deselect all notes after a change (well its actually a select all then deselect all) in order to keep in sync with the clip.
Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
^you are correct! i should have tried that in the first place instead of just turning all my Input/Sync/Remote settings to Off.
Although that is kind of a bummer, because i use griid and livecontrol pretty often, they are both awesome
I suppose i'll just have to tweak my workflow a little bit to get around this.
Thanks ST8

Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
This is only the case in order to keep the clip editors in sync. If you dont sequence midi with cliip/livecontrol i can give you a fix to disable the clip polling.

Hey, not sure if you'll get this, but I have this same issue, and am interested in the "fix" for the clip polling/deselect issue. I love livecontrol, but don't sequence using it... and the polling issue is annoying
Any help is appreciated if you can share the fix
Cheers

Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
Hello
Did anyone get this sorted? It's happening to me and is making Ableton completely unusable. Cannot keep any midi blocks selected whether playing or not. They instantly deselect as soon as you move something once. It's incredibly frustrating. I don't have any scripts, on latest Live version on mac book pro.
Any ideas?
Thanks

UPDATE
It seems this behaviour is only happening on version 8.2.5. Midi blocks are staying firmly selected on version 8.2.1

Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
No, it does it in versions later than that. I'll test the the control surface options later to confirm if that's a problem; it wouldn't surprise me.
Re: Why do my MIDI clips no longer stay selected?!?
ST8's advice worked, i had to take my control surfaces using scripts off the list. I have to add it back though when i DO use Cliip/Livecontrol though.
red313, try downloading 8.2.7 and let us know how it works.

Hi
While the problem remains for me in version 8.2.5 I installed version 8.2.7 and this resolved it completely.
Thanks all for your help.
