New problem with recording audio and cpu overload?

I'm having a 'new' problem that has just cropped for no apparent reason? When I record audio after a few bars of recording my machine chokes up and tracks cut out or Ableton just freezes? I wasn't having this problem before? I have the Ableton 8.2.6 I do run the machine at 64 samples but like I said I hadn't had a problem with audio previously? And even if I put the sample to 250 it still does it? It does this even though I don't have any vsts or midi instruments running?
